While theoretically the process of resonance assignment may seem straightforward, there are always complications. One section of this chapter describes a few semi-automated protocols based on particular software packages and particular selection of experiments. It will also describe a few tricks and shortcuts that are useful and save the user time.

The other section concentrates on automatic assignment methods. These usually take spectral peak lists as input and produce the assignments as output. Again, particular spectral visualisation software and particular automation software will dictate the step-by-step actions the user needs to take.
